About Varsity MTB Challenge

The Varsity MTB Challenge is a 2-day stage race which takes place annually in the beautiful Paarl Valley in the Cape Winelands. The popular event sees a host of Varsity Alumni (Old Boys) gather once a year to rekindle friendships at the vibey Nederburg race village and tackle some of the trails finest trails on offer in South Africa.

The event also caters for active students and the general public - the inaugural Varsity MTB Challenge attracted riders from across South Africa, racing for their alma mater or university of choice or simply just having fun as non-aligned teams.

At the front end the best active student teams thrash it out in 3-person teams for the honour of being crowned Varsity champions of South Africa.

The Varsity MTB Challenge is unique as it’s the only mountain bike race in South Africa where the general public ride for their university of their choice. It brings together old friends and foes, young and experienced riders in a challenge to crown the best Varsity Sports MTB university in the country.

The race is designed to not only challenge the hardy mountain-biker, but to surprise and entertain everyone along the way. Expect unique water points with special treats, spectacular spectator points and the best rider facilities on offer at the race village.
