The 2017 Varsity MTB Challenge, which takes place on 30 September – 1 October in Paarl, offers a 2-night luxury tented village for out-of-town riders who would like to camp at Nederburg for the 2-day stage race.
The tented package has been introduced at R2800 per team of two riders and it includes a luxury tent for Friday and Saturday evening as well as dinner on both evenings at Nederburg.
Riders can book the luxury tented accommodation package as an optional extra during the on-line entry process. The luxury tented package has proved very popular at our other stage races; hence we have decided to add it to the Varsity MTB experience as well as a plug-and-play option for out-of-town riders.
The Safari tents feature two comfortable single beds with mattresses, ¾ pure white 200 thread count white linen, soft duvets and pillows, bed side tables, electric lanterns, blankets, carpets and chairs and towels.
This means there is no need for riders to bring any linen or lights, and there is even a camp chair outside on which to enjoy the beautiful sunset over the Drakenstein Mountains!
The 2-day Varsity MTB Challenge is focussed on attracting as many alumni as possible to compete for their erstwhile universities in what is billed as South Africa’s “ultimate alumni challenge”.
Entries are now open
Many riders who have entered this year have slotted the Varsity MTB Challenge into their Wines2Whales training regime as it fits in perfectly to provide a back-to-back weekend ride one month prior to Wines2Whales. It will provide a good barometer of one’s form leading into the iconic 3-stage race from Somerset West to Hermanus.
The Varsity MTB Challenge is open to alumni, students and the public, who will participate in two-man teams.
The Varsity MTB Challenge consists of two tough cloverleaf stages that start and finish at Nederburg Estate in Paarl and incorporates two days of riding on the trails in the Drakenstein mountains near Paarl and out towards Wellington.
