Focus on Franschhoek for Varsity MTB Challenge

Focus on Franschhoek for Varsity MTB Challenge

Bela Bela leg postponed until 2017

Advent Sport Entertainment and Media (ASEM) and Sports4U have made changes to the recently launched Varsity MTB Challenge. The Bela Bela leg has been postponed until 2017, with the inaugural challenge now focusing on the launch race set for Franschhoek between 1 and 2 October 2016.

“After careful consideration we have made a decision to postpone the Bela Bela Challenge and focus our efforts on the two-day race in Franschhoek,” says Duitser Bosman, CEO of Varsity Sports.

The format remains the same; the general public will be able to participate and race for their universities in the challenge, while South Africa’s top universities compete for the official Varsity Sports Mountain Bike title, sponsored by First National Bank. The participating top five university teams include Maties, UCT Ikeys, UP-Tuks, NWU-Pukke and Madibaz.

“The aim of the Varsity MTB Challenge is to create a platform where university alumni can compete against each other in a unique race, while also giving them the perfect opportunity to network and rekindle old friendships and camaraderie,” reiterates Bosman. “We want to see riders from across the country take up the challenge and join us for an exciting two days in Franschhoek.”

The public race is open to everyone and not just the alumni from the five universities competing for the Varsity Sports Mountain Bike title.

Riders who have already entered the Bela Bela Challenge should contact for a full refund.
